Musa Keys Among Few South African Acts Nominated For The Grammys

A-listers from Mzansi came together on Tuesday night to celebrate Grammy nominee Musa Keys at his farewell party at Sandton, Johannesburg’s lively Zioux Restaurant.

The Amapiano star, who was born in Limpopo, is taking a jet to Los Angeles for next weekend’s biggest music event.

For his work with Nigerian superstar Davido on the Afrobeat hit “Unavailable,” he is up for Best African Music Performance.

When asked about his plans to drink, Keys told Sowetan that he was so happy that he was thinking about having something harder to celebrate his success.

Some of his peers in the business world, including Zakes Bantwini, Anele Mdoda, Buhle Samuels, Boity Thulo, Robot Boii, Tshepi Vundla, Mpho “Popps” Modikoane, Ayanda MVP, Priddy Ugly, Bontle Modiselle, and Primo Baloyi, accepted the offer at the last minute.

A Grammy has been in my life for a very long time, the former SMag cover star said.

If you listen to interviews I did two or three years ago, you can hear me saying over and over, ‘I’m going to get a Grammy, I’m going to get a Grammy. My next job is to work hard to keep being nominated for a Grammy.

Keys is one of only a few South African acts to be nominated for the well-known music award. Only about 10 local bands have won so far. They are Bantwini, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the Soweto Gospel Choir, Black Coffee, Nomcebo Zikode, Wouter Kellerman, and Miriam Makeba.

South Africans Tyla, the acapella group Just 6, and actor Trevor Noah, who is back as host for a third year in a row, are also up for awards this year. Tyla was on the cover of SMag and has a hit song called “Water.”

This is where they will meet every year because they think there will always be an African or South African nominated for a Grammy. Bantwini, who won last year, said this.

I want to encourage all musicians to set high goals. The Grammy isn’t an award only for the Zakes of the world; anyone can win it. The following acts have been nominated: Musa Keys, Tyla, Just 6, Burna Boy, Davido, and other brothers. We will be going to Los Angeles next week to support them. No matter what, we want a South African win next Sunday. If an African brother wins, it’s also our win.

Without a doubt, Keys has always dressed himself, both on and off the job. For Grammy night, though, he told Sowetan that he had hired an American tailor to help him.

I have chosen to work with an American stylist for the first time to put together a look. I’ve already made a mood board with things I like and how I’d like it to look. He said, It’s going to be crazy and awesome.

It looks like the singer of “Selema” (Po Po) has also found love. At the end of his speech last night, he told the woman who has his heart that he loves her.

People in the room “oohed and aahed” when he said, I love you Nicole. Keys blushed and asked them to stop making fun of him.
