Zahara’s Funeral: Eastern Cape Memorial Service

Fans and friends of Bulelwa “Zahara” Mkutukana said goodbye to her last week at Rhema Bible Church.

On Friday, people in her home province of Easter Cape did the same.

Zahara’s second funeral service is being held at the East London International Convention Centre (ELICC) in East London. Veteran broadcaster Putco Mafani is in charge of the show.

Dumza Maswana performed, and producer Mjakes, who worked with the singer on some of her biggest hits, paid honour.

Litha Mpondwana, a spokeswoman for the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, told The Citizen last week that the Eastern Cape and Gauteng governments will both help Zahara’s family with funeral plans.

“The family is getting help from the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, as well as the provincial governments of Gauteng and the Eastern Cape,” Mpondwana said.

It is likely that Zahara will be buried on Saturday.

Zsahara’s former record label boss, DJ Sbu, told SABC that the late singer would be buried in the Eastern Cape, which is where she was born and raised.

“She was born in the Eastern Cape, which is where she will be buried.” “The funeral is on December 23, which is just two days before Christmas,” Sbu said.
Putting on shows for the Boks

A well-known poet, Mzawakhe Mbuli, told The Citizen at last week’s funeral service that Zahara wanted to welcome the Springboks back to the country with a song after successfully defending their Rugby World Cup title.

“I talked to her four weeks ago.” Zahara asked us to sing the Mandela song at the airport when Amabhokobhoko left for home.

Zahara and Mbuli made the Mandela song, which is a cute little number on Zahara’s 2013 record Phendula.

“Her manager sent an email to the Arts and Culture Department, and they told them there would be no performances planned, but there would be a party for Amabhokobhoko,” Mbuli said.
