Adetokunbo Olufela He was born on May 12, 1971, in Ibadan, Oyo State, and works as a business adviser, leadership expert, and motivational speaker.Fela is the head of the GEMSTONE Nation Builders Foundation, a non-governmental, non-profit group that trains young people to be transformational leaders and bring about social change. He was running for president of Nigeria in 2019 as a candidate for the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) party

He became the Senior Special Assistant to the President for National Values and Social Justice in Bola Tinubu’s government in 2023.

Education

Layiwola and Adeline Durotoye got married and had Fela. Both of them were teachers at the University of Ibadan. Fela went to the Staff Children’s School from 1974 to 1981 and then finished from Moremi High School in 1986. This was after his parents moved to Obafemi Awolowo University of Ife.

At Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Durotoye went on to get his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Economics and his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.). He graduated from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government Executive Education program.

At Yale University, Fela Durotoye took a course called High Impact Leadership for a Better Society. He is also a certified leadership teacher with the John Maxwell team. At the Lagos Business School, Fela finished the executive seminar program on strategy, creativity, and the role of government in 2015. After that, he went to the Nigerian Police Training College and passed the extra time police training program with honours.

Career

It was 1992, and Fela Durotoye worked as a financial analyst at Ventures & Trusts Limited. His job at Phillips Consulting Limited in 1998 was to be in charge of customer service. Following this, Fela started V.I.P. Consulting Limited in 2000.

This company quickly became well-known in Nigeria for its work with customers and employees. After going through some changes, the company went from being a consulting business to a social enterprise called Visible Impact Limited.

Durotoye works as a facilitator and talks at leadership and management retreats in and out of Nigeria.

Durotoye spoke to more than 200 business owners at the first Nigerian American Business Forum in Tampa, Florida, in 2018. He shared the stage with senior senator Mohammed Shaaba Lafiagi, senator Ben Murray-Bruce, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, Biodun Shobanjo, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former governor Peter Obi, and technologist Ade Olufeko.

Makeover of Mushin

In December 2009, Fela Durotoye led the “Mushin Makeover” urban renewal project. Painters like Banky W, Alibaba, Kate Henshaw, Omoni Oboli, Teju Babyface, Sound Sultan, TY Bello, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Omawumi, Denrele, Dele Momodu, Tosin Bucknor, Stella Damasus, Tee A, Segun Dangote, and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu took part in the project and asked for paint donations. Young workers gave away free paint and were there to paint.

Fela got more than 2,000 people to paint 296 homes on 7 streets in the Mushin neighbourhood of Lagos for free, without charging the owners or people who lived in the homes. Over 100 young people who were out of work were taught The Art & Technique of Painting by Berger Paints PLC as part of the Mushin Makeover project. Through the Mushin Makeover project, the young people were able to get jobs as artists.

Politics

He announced on February 22, 2018, that he was going to run for president of Nigeria in the 2019 election as a member of the Alliance for New Nigeria party. Eleven presidential candidates working together under the name Presidential Aspirants Coming Together (PACT) chose Fela Durotoye as their clear choice. He was named the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) presidential candidate for the 2019 election on September 29, 2018.

Though Fela was running for office, he said, It’s not easy to run for office. He also said, The best way to serve his nation’s interest is to do so from the nation’s highest office. He picked Khadijah Abdullahi-Iya as his running mate after a few months. She has done well as a social entrepreneur, and he would make her vice president.

Fela Durotoye praised Oby Ezekwesili on Twitter on Thursday, January 24, 2019, for being at the forefront of building a strong coalition and offering a Consensus Candidate for the 2019 Presidential elections.

He also said that if he didn’t win the election, he would support the candidacy of a consensus candidate chosen from the leading alternative candidates, such as Fela Durotoye, Omoyele Sowore, and Kingsley Moghalu, through a fair election process. Before this agreement, there was a group called The Force made up of the Young Progressive Party and the Alliance for New Nigeria.

Personal Life

Tara Fela-Durotoye is married to Fela. She is a Nigerian lawyer, make-up artist, and CEO of House of Tara. There are three boys in the family: Mobolurin, Demilade, and Morolaoluwa. Fela Durotoye and his whole family are Christians.
