A famous person named Nomuzi Mabena told The Citizen that she is safe after Mauritius warned people about tropical storm Belal hitting the island.

I’m fine and safe at the hotel. Nomuzi told The Citizen, I came to Mauritius to stay with friends and take a break from work.

Monday, the government of Mauritius told people to stay inside, but on Tuesday, the order was lifted. Instead, the Mauritius Meteorological Services (MMS) said in an early morning update that people were strongly advised to maintain precaution and stay in safe places.

Indicating that Belal has already crossed at its closest distance from Mauritius, the MMS said, the air pressure was rising.

However, the island is still being affected by the cyclonic winds linked to Belal, the MMS said.

While on vacation with close friends in Mauritius, Nomuzi is taking a well-earned break. Her publicist, Kim Sineke, told The Citizen, Yes, as you can see on her social media pages, Cyclone Belal hit Mauritius while she was on vacation.

Thank goodness Nomuzi and the rest of the travellers are safe and sound.

The TV figure who goes by the name “Moozlie” is going to South Africa in a few days to start the new work year.

Sineke said, Her thoughts and prayers are with those who may have been hurt by the Cyclone.

The storm first hit Reunion Island, which is next to Mauritius, on Monday. The island was then put on cyclone watch on Monday, and people were told to stay inside.

AFP and Reuters say that Belal killed one person on the French island of Reunion, cut power to thousands of people, and caused traffic chaos by burying many cars in floods or setting them up on the streets.

Don’t leave for any reason, even if the weather is nice. This is most likely the eye of the cyclone, the French Reunion government said.

According to Jerome Filippini, the prefect of Reunion, precautionary cuts meant that about 100,000 customers were without power and 37,000 people were without water. He also said that the number of households affected was likely to go up.
