Tyla wins Grammy for Best African Music Performance

Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture Zizi Kodwa congratulated Tyla on winning her first Grammy Award.

Tyla is a proud ambassador for South African arts and culture. I congratulate Tyla on her historic Grammy Award triumph, which came before she ever released a whole record. Continue to inspire and to fly the South African flag high.

“I also congratulate all South African artists who have been nominated for the 66th Grammy Award. Trevor Noah, Just 6, and Musa Keys showcase the unique South African artistic abilities on the global scale,” Kodwa stated.
Career

Tyla’s tune Water entered Spotify’s top 40 global playlist after being streamed over 40 million times.

The song also debuted at number 82 on the Apple Music US list, becoming the highest-charting song by a South African musician since Master KG’s Jerusalema.

When word spread that her song had made history, the South African-born musician dedicated her triumph to Mzansi, prompting a number of social media users to inquire about the Amapiano star.

Following her major break, Tyla acquired a recording contract with Epic Records in a joint venture with Fax Records in the United States.
